The horn becomes mandatory for electric scooters and hoverboards
Recently, all motorized personal mobility devices (PWDMs) are now required to be fitted with an audible warning device. If the horn cannot be present on the vehicle, it is the driver who must wear it directly on him. This applies, for example, to electric scooters, Segways, and hoverboards, but also all other motor vehicles.
From now on, to comply with the regulations, all motorized personal transport vehicles (EDPM), such as electric scooters, monowheels, gyropods, and hoverboards, must be equipped with an audible warning device. The latter can be a bell or a bell, the sound of which is audible at least 50 meters away.
To be considered valid in the face of the new regulations, the horn must be controlled from a device attached to the handlebars of the personal motorized mobility device (EDPM). When the vehicle does not have one, the horn must be worn by the driver. The horn must be provided by the manufacturer, but its installation can be done by the owner of the machine.
The amount of the fine in the absence of an audible warning device is 35 €.
Other compulsory additional equipment
In addition to this buzzer, other equipment also becomes mandatory. From now on, EDPMs must also be equipped with front and rear position lights, as well as retro-reflective devices (reflectors) and a braking system.
Regarding other equipment such as wearing a helmet or reflective material such as a yellow vest, armband, they are only recommended.
Move safely with EDPMs
To ride safely with these new travel tools, you have to be careful to follow a few simple rules: ride on city bike paths when there are any and on greenways and cycle paths outside built-up areas.
