Tag Heuer - The Secret Behind Its Success

What do you know about the world of watchmaking? As far as the average watch collector is concerned, it is a place where some of the best mechanical creations of this generation took place. The true watch connoisseur, however, knows that the reality is far away from the aforementioned. The Haute Horlogerie industry can be best described as poetic chaos. There are countless brands in the attempts to make it big and then there are brands that have proved their mettle but are now in the quest of retaining their position. It is a classic tale of the wolf on the top of the hill and the wolf that is trying to climb that hill. In this turmoil, there are often gems discovered that leave an irremovable mark. Tag Heuer is one such brand that has proved its worth time and again despite the various controversies that somehow find a way to the watchmaker.

There are usually questions regarding the rise of the brand in the industry. Many people already know about the buyout of the original Tag Heuer brand by LVMH in 1999. What people do not know about is the history of the watchmaker that goes way back to the late 1800s. Let us find out about it.

A Humble Start

The venture began its journey in St-Imier, Switzerland and was founded by none other than Edouard Heuer in 1860. The business started off as Uhrenmanufaktur Heuer AG. It was not long before Heuer patented his first chronograph in 1882. The more interesting invention, however, came up in 1887 when Tag Heuer watches for men patented the coveted oscillating pinion.

Innovations

The foundations of Tag Heuer watches for women and men were laid down based on innovations. The core principles of the watchmaker clearly state that. One of the earliest examples of this was the dashboard clock launched in 1911. The device had an in-built chronograph that helped drivers to essentially time their laps.

Associations

Tag Heuer has made many associations along the way and all of them have only proved the marketing genius of the company. From the early 1950s to the late 1970s, Heuer was a fairly popular name among racers, both professional and amateur. This greatly affected the performance of the brand in the industry and to some extent, it is carried forward even today.

That is Tag Heuer for you, a brand full of integrity, drive, and spirit. The watchmaker might have a few clouds of controversies to clear out, but it is one of the best in the industry nonetheless.
