New York, NY – February 7, 2019 – “Without mathematics, there is no art,” once mused Italian mathematician Luca Pacioli. He expounded on the theory in his 15th century book, The Divine Proportion, illustrated by Leonardo Da Vinci. Here, he introduced the Golden Ratio, its prevalence in nature and its aesthetics that benefit from precise mathematical proportions.
Symmetry, Poetry, Harmony; The three ‘ingredients’ for beauty, as believed by the Ancient Greeks are interpreted through this ratio for CAMILLA AND MARC’s Fall Winter 2019 collection.

“We were inspired by the genius and simplicity that nature brings,” explains Creative Director, Camilla Freeman-Topper. “The occurrence of the Golden Ratio emphasizes that there is something so much greater than us, beyond the mind of man.”
With effortlessness at the brand’s core, the collection seeks to articulate the Golden Ratio’s play on proportions with the female form. Therefore, silhouettes are extruded: long, layered and relaxed, favoring sophistication over slouch. Layers are tonal, to create a harmonious foundation from which to build in trapeze shapes, balanced by clean, sculptural styles in monochrome. “We looked to geometry as a tangible platform to articulate the play on proportions with the female form,” offers Freeman-Topper.
Shirting is realized with stricter corsetry details, as well as pieces cut from pivoted cubes and graduated cone shapes, highlighting the female form. Suiting is softened and made more feminine in marle; a mustard PVC coat sharpens a feminine fit-and-flare dress; a strapless georgette column gown moulds to the body with contour stitch detailing; velvet separates are sculpted with wrap construction behind the bod and knife and box pleats offer linear movement.
Nature is paid homage to throughout the collection, buoyed by an inspired palette: a Python jacquard knit in cardamom, a brushed wool in almond, khaki, shot lurex in sapphire, chartreuse crushed velvet, brushed wool angora in burnt cherry and black alongside a shell and abstracted animal print.
The collection seeks to find balance in reconstruction, a play on nature versus geometry; An ancient aesthetic theory applied to the modern woman. In the words of Einstein, “The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and science.”
