Need Adult Braces? How to Wear Them Without Ruining Your Look

During the years of grade school, most children are so excited about the idea of braces. This is mainly because most of their peers have braces and they want to fit in. However, the sentiment changes once people get older. Suddenly, it’s not so cool to have rubber bands stuck to the teeth as a 35-year-old. If you’ve found yourself in a predicament where your orthodontist is telling you to get braces, here are some ways to wear your braces in style.

Use Neutral or Invisible Braces

It’s a good idea to consider wearing neutral or invisible braces. If Invisalign is an available option, consider that so that you can take them off when you want to. When it’s time to wear them, no one will see them. Neutral colors such as white or silver can work well if you would like to tone down the look of the rubber bands in your mouth. Plus, those colors will also blend in with the metal braces.

Start Color-Coordinating the Outfits

If you love bright colors, consider getting braces with the bright rubber bands. This could be your signature look. If pink is your favorite color and you don’t mind having pink rubber bands, make sure your wardrobe has a lot of colors that will complement the pink choice and adult braces.

Always Wear Confidence

Above anything else, be intentional about working on your self-esteem and confidence. If you’re confident about your look, no one else can say anything that will get you down. As a child, it’s easier to hear negative comments and become affected by them. As an adult, it’s important to do the necessary emotional work so that you can walk confidently into a room without being bothered by the words of others.

Practice Healthy Oral Hygiene

It’s wise to practice good oral hygiene. Brush your teeth regularly. When it’s time to go to work or anywhere else, make sure that you always walk with dental floss. If you’re eating lunch, you don’t want to get food stuck in your teeth and walk around with it for the whole day. As long as you maintain a healthy and clean smile, your braces really won’t make much of a difference.

When you’re intentional about implementing these tips, the turnaround time for your braces won’t feel quite as long. Talk to other adults that have worn braces in adulthood. See what their experiences have been. You might find out that the experience is not as bad as you might think it can be.
