Back of House: 5 Unsong Heroes That Make Fashion Week Happen

When you enjoy watching the latest fashion runway shows, you may think that the models and clothing designers are 100% responsible for the event. However, there are five unsung heroes who are necessary to have a great fashion runway event.

Stylists

In addition to wearing unique garments that are created by fashion designers, the models have their hair styled in a certain way, and there are also makeup artists who apply lipstick, foundation and eye shadow to the faces of the models. There are also stylists who choose accessories for the models, and some of these accessories include earrings, shoes or hats.

Backstage Dressers

The backstage dressers are responsible for keeping the outfits and accessories organized at a fashion show. This can involve moving racks of clothing from one area to another as quickly as possible while models scurry around getting dressed. The same model may wear multiple garments during a fashion show, so the backstage dresser will help the model to remove the current outfit before putting on the next garment. While this is completed quickly, it also requires precision to avoid damaging a garment’s fabric or zippers.

Fashion Runway Managers

To have an efficient fashion runway show, you must have knowledgeable event management. These experts are in charge of the fashion show’s planning from the beginning to ensure that it is organized properly. In addition to finding a venue, advertising the event and sending out invitations to guests, these managers are responsible for backstage communications from a reliable Motorola dealer in New York so that the models are ready to walk down the runway on time. They must be able to communicate quickly and instantly with dozens of moving parts.  In some cases, there are issues that require making last-minute changes in the runway’s program, so the experts must have the ability to remain calm at all times.

Stage Designers

Modern fashion shows are similar to movies or plays with an assortment of stage sets. Each designer wants to create a mood or an ambience for the fashion show, so the stage designers create backdrops along with choosing music and lighting that works with the stage sets. With the proper stage sets and other elements, it is possible to make the garments seem more attractive on the models.

Seamstresses

Without knowledgeable seamstresses, there wouldn’t be a fashion show. While the designers have the ideas for a garment, the seamstresses stitch the fabrics together and add the embellishments. In some cases, it can take weeks to add details to a designer garment so that it looks special on the runway during the fashion show. Seamstresses will also work backstage at the fashion show to alter garments or to make repairs as fast as possible.

Last, on the day of the fashion runway show, there are security guards who stand at the entranceway to admit the guests. During the event, many photographers will take photographs or videos of the fashion show to feature the designer garments in magazines or online.
