Get Off the Millennials’ Backs!

Millennials are widely discussed in public media lately. Their lives undergo total research not omitting every little thing from the way they make purchases to their intimate life. Here and there you can hear desperate complaints about this generation being different from the previous ones, often with a negative connotation. This is not new. Every generation thinks that youngsters are worse, ruder, more stupid, or whatever else compared to them. But seriously, what's the point of this lamenting?

Yes, Millennials are different. They spend more time at home with gadgets than out with people. They are not in a hurry to grow up, have family and their own houses. They like to travel and aren’t afraid to quit a job if it doesn’t make them happy. They have less sex and start doing it later than their predecessors. Their life and interests may seem boring to people whose personalities had to form in a different social and cultural paradigm. 

But it doesn’t mean they deserve blaming for these changes. First, they need to deal with the world that was arranged by other generations for them to grow up in. Second, there are so many positive things they promote. Instead of shaming, let’s observe what Millennials actually do better than any other previous generation.

They take better care of their health

People of older generations just wanted to have fun and didn’t care much about their health when they were young. “Going to the dentist just for a checkup? No, I’ll wait until my teeth hurt”.  Millennials are more conscious about it. They want to eat healthy food, exercise and they really care about their health. In addition, they aren’t interested in bad habits like smoking, alcohol and drug abuse. Today it’s cool to be strong and healthy.

They want to make this world a better place

While previous generations destroyed nature’s resources and preserved such inhumane values as racism, sexism, etc., Millennials are sick and tired of growing up in such a short-sighted world. They want to fix the mistakes of their predecessors and make this world a safer and friendlier space. Think of this the next time before complaining that “everybody is easily offended now”. It was always like this but no one cared.

They don’t want to make poor life choices

Millennials don’t want to start a family early and it’s not a bad thing. They want to earn enough money to be financially stable, be psychologically ready and have all the fun before they will be busy with babies. They want to have healthy and happy families, not just thoughtlessly reproduce and raise unhappy children. Some of them don’t want to have children at all, and this is also good. Our planet is overpopulated, and there is no sense in giving life to children if you only do it because it’s your “duty”, without really wanting it and being ready to become parents.

They don’t want to settle down too early

Millennials want to see the world, to travel and to try different experiences. They are more mobile than in previous generations. Many Millennials see their perfect job as something they can do from any place in the world without being attached to an office. Freedom is more important for them than stability, they are not afraid to take risks and relocate if they feel the need to do it. The whole world is a home for them, and it expands their limits and opportunities. 

They think outside the box

Millennials rethink social stereotypes and reverse them. It’s the first generation that really fights toxic standards that were always a part of society and do lots of harm everyone was always ashamed to talk about. Millennial women aren’t afraid to be strong, and men aren’t afraid to be sensitive. They are groundbreaking and make you reevaluate everything you know about what is right and what is wrong. 

Are these reasons not enough to stop bashing on Millennials? They are so cool! But there is another next generation that has already come on the scene. Let’s welcome it instead of comparing it with others and see how it will change the world!
