BARRAGÁN A/W 2019 Runway Show
Victor Barragan presented his third runway show for his namesake label BARRAGAN. The Autumn/Winter 2019 debut defied constraints of a traditional runway at Archivo de Diseño y Arquitectura in Chapultepec. Models walked through the garden and water mirror of the building descending on Archivo’s iconic spiral cement ramp into the main garden of the building, surprising crowds of audience with BARRAGAN’s latest sartorial statement.

Traditional Mexican patterns and modernist graphics are the inspiration for Barragan’s Autumn/Winter 2019 Collection. Historical references mix with contemporary silhouettes to create a style of luxury that incorporates everyday Mexican elements with high design. The collection featured graphics sampled from Mexican modernist history– playing with logos and patterns that are part of the Mexico City’s visual language. The Barragan monogram debuted in this collection especially highlights the mix of indigenous symbolism and Mexican design history that is part of the brand’s DNA.

For the runway presentation, models walked around the lush vegetation of a Luis Barragan garden, at the Archivo Diseno y Arquitectura, wearing golden accessories that contrast the structured tailoring and pleated fabrics of the collection. The bright floral velvet prints stands against muted denim colors and bright psychedelic patterns to create a fresh look for the autumn collection.

BARRAGAN started in New York City in 2014 by Victor Barragan as a distinctly Latinx experiment in fashion trends, gender identity, and media consumption. The brand offers an alternative to mainstream fashion by reinterpreting staples in counter- intuitive ways rooted in Latin American culture and traditions. In its clothing, BARRAGAN conveys an alternate reality by cut and pasting classic womens and menswear silhouettes to create mis-matched yet congruent pieces. Both womens and menswear are reworked to fit both sexes creating a uniquely gendered yet gender-fluid collection of clothing. The clothing is designed in New York City and fabricated in Mexico using high quality fabrics and materials.
