What Is Wine Doing To Your Face? This Is How Bad Diet Habits Destroy Your Complexion!
We’ve all heard the saying, “You are what you eat.” But did you also know that you are what you drink? Believe it or not, whatever touches our lips has a very direct impact on our system. And it’s not just on the inside that this effect can be felt, it is very obvious on the outside as well. Of all the organs, the skin is the most sensitive of the lot, and this is where you can see the telltale effects of what you have been drinking.
Renowned dermatologists have studied this phenomenon in depth and have come to the conclusion that depending on what kind of beverages you are addicted to, your face’s skin will also differ (1). I mean, we all know that a wild night might result in puffy eyes due to lack of sleep and dehydration, but it’s a little alarming to know that the effects can be permanent as well.
According to research conducted by skin specialists, the type of skin according to beverage proclivity can be classified into four types:
- Dairy skin
- Gluten skin
- Sugar skin
- Wine skin
So, what do the four skin types mentioned above actually mean, and what are the differences between them? Let’s take a slightly more detailed look into them!
1. Dairy Skin
While some of us are born lactose intolerant, some of us develop it over time (2). But according to the research related to skin type, all people lose the ability to digest dairy products as age catches up with them. This, in turn, affects the body physiologically, leading to inflammation of the skin due to the chemicals deposited in our body by these dairy products that out body is unable to digest.
We have to remember that dairy in itself isn’t harmful if it is procured from an organic source. But thanks to all the contamination that happens at the stage of feeding the cows from which the milk is sourced, the dairy products become laced with chemicals that are harmful for the body in the long run.
Dairy skin is usually identifiable by the presence of bags under the eyes and swollen heavy lids. You may also see the presence of tiny bumps on the chin that are white in color. According to face mapping, the area of your face surrounding the chin is representative of the reproductive organs, and presence of such bumps indicate the disruption of your normal physiological functions. Hence, in case you notice such signs on your skin and face, try staying away from foods containing lactose, i.e. dairy products. The change in your complexion will be very visible, along with noticeable changes in your energy levels.
2. Gluten Skin
Quite a recent phenomenon, gluten intolerance is an allergy that didn’t receive as much attention in the past as it is receiving now (3). And it has become alarmingly common as well. Our guess is that this is again because of the presence of contaminated chemicals in the food containing gluten, which makes it worse and more obvious.
Skin affected by the consumption of gluten will usually have dark pigmentation around the chin area, visible as patches and spots. Even the cheeks will seem puffier usual. The thing with gluten is that if it adversely affects you, it must be completely eliminated from your diet. So, if you see these symptoms on your face and skin, make sure you completely avoid all foods containing gluten and compensate for it by eating foods rich in fiber.
3. Sugar Skin
We all love our sugar fixes, don’t we? But sadly, it isn’t something that is good for us. Apart from the taste, sugar doesn’t really do too much for the body, especially when consumed in a refined form. It just services the tongue and taste buds, that’s all. If you have skin that is sagging, and have prominent lines in your forehead area, accompanied by conspicuous pustular spots on the face, it might be because you’re indulging your sweet tooth a little too much.
Face mapping says that the forehead is directly related to digestion, and it is known that an excess of sugar ruins your digestive system for it messes with the essential gut bacteria present there. Hence, the best way to make sure you are not inflicted by ‘sugar skin’ is to do away with all the refined sugar in your diet. It might sound impossible in the beginning, but slow and steady wins the race!
4. Wine Skin
In this particular case, wine is just a euphemism for all alcoholic beverages. We are all aware that all kinds of alcohols dehydrate the body, especially the liver. As if that was not enough, it also has copious amounts of sugar that also affects the body quite adversely. This will manifest on your skin in the form of clear redness or lines between your eyes, enlarged skin pores, heavy eyelids, and an overall dehydrated look, that produces feathery lines across your face. Additionally, your nose and cheeks will also look overtly flushed (4). Nevertheless, the best way to deal with this is to avoid alcohol altogether or at least abstain 80% of the time and indulge only 20% of the time.
